India has never had such a heartless, clueless and bungling leadership at any point in its history, which is in any way comparable to the one that it is suffering from currently. But then, one can’t complain since this communal gang came to power promising to build ‘shamshans’ (cremotirums) and many voted precisely for that. They have delivered, and how. And, even today, a day after we recorded 2.3 lakh cases and more than 1300 deaths, the dear leader boasts at an election rally about the crowd he managed to gather (“as far as my eyes can see on every side”), breaking all protocols. In the morning, he had said sweet nothings on the need to scale down Kumbh mela, after it had become the country’s biggest superspreader event, thanks in part to the Government which helpfully provided trains so that people could converge. Trains, which were not available for migrant workers and their families when they trudged back home last year, covering thousands of kilometres.

In Maharashtra, the CM who made a desperate call to the PM over the shortage of oxygen and Remdesivir was told that the PM is busy on an election tour of West Bengal. Nawab Malik, a cabinet minister, says that companies dealing in Remdesivir were told by the centre to not supply the medicine to Maharashtra. In Kerala, the vaccine stock has been depleting over the past few days, yet there has not been much of a response to requests put to the centre. The Union Minister of State, who is said to be a Malayali (because he speaks Malayalam) is not known to have taken any steps on the vaccine front, but has been busy showering disgraceful words at the CM. He is getting away with it, with the ample support of the sanghified news channels and their shameless anchors, who won’t even dare to mention that the vaccine shortage is due to the centre. They would just talk about the issue of vaccine shortage, hoping that a majority would assume that it is because the State Government messed up. They would never talk about the vindictive nature of the heartless saffron gang at the centre.

But the State Government is about to mess up, in one respect, in bowing to the demands to hold Thrissur Pooram. Today, Thrissur district has 1149 cases. Now, even with a condition that those attending should have COVID- negative certificates, it sure is to end up being a super-spreader event. The Government should issue an order limiting pooram to just the rituals without any crowd, and let the Hindutva gang bark all they want.

Not to mention Adityanath’s Uttar Pradesh and dear leader’s own Gujarat, both of which have proved to be model states….in having shamshans for the innocent victims of Government apathy. Yet, a large majority of the bhakts whose heads are still deep in saffron poison would probably vote for the same bunch again, despite even deaths in their own family. That’s how blind communalism can make you.

Now, we can just wait for the diversions that the gang must be cooking up, to take our attention away from this once-in-a-lifetime disaster. The worst disasters bring about the worst diversions from them.
