  1. Union Minister of State for Home Ajay Mishra’s son Ashish Mishra ran his car over farmers protesting against the Union Government’s anti-farmer laws at Lakhimpur Kheri in UP today. Two farmers have died and some others have sustained injuries too.

2. Shah Rukh Khan’s son Aryan Khan gets arrested during a Narcotics Control Bureau raid on a rave party.

The entire saffron media gang at Delhi has been doing non-stop coverage of the second case since morning, although it is just another regular drug bust case, except for the celebrity angle. The case of murder of two farmers protesting against the Union Government, by a Union Minister’s son, gets just a passing mention in the channels, which have all announced on their twitter feed special prime time discussions on the celebrity drug bust. Now, these are the same news channels that did not care to discuss the case involving the seizure of 3000 kg heroin (worth Rs.21,000 crore) from Adani-operated Mundra port in Gujarat.

The last time the notional media had a discussion on drug trafficking was during one of their greatest propaganda overdrive for the BJP yet — the shameful campaign after Sushant Singh Rajput’s suicide. Minor ganja seizures of a few grams often end up as small, two or three line city stories in most newspapers. In Rhea Chakraborty’s case, not even a gram of marijuana was recovered from her. Even the NCB was brought in, despite this being nothing more than a case which the local police could have handled. Around the same time, we also witnessed the hounding of Deepika Padukone over “drug chats”.

Every such minor drug case getting round-the-clock coverage is an obvious attempt at distraction by the godi media, following by the letter the orders from the top. Or, maybe, 3 gram weighs more than 3000 kilograms in new India.
